Brady Dermott Collins: Geraldton man indicates guilty plea to running over girlfriend, not guilty to fleeing

Prominent local cricketer Brady Collins, who is accused of running over his 18-year-old girlfriend in an alleged hit-and-run, intends to plead guilty to dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm. But the 25-year-old will stand trial on other allegations that he fled the scene and failed to report the incident. In Geraldton Magistrates Court on Monday, Mr Collins pleaded not guilty to failing to report an incident to police and failing to stop after an incident occasioning grievous bodily harm. But a plea of guilty was flagged to a charge of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm. Police allege on Sunday, December 18 Mr Collins ran over and dragged an 18-year-old woman under his car in Utakarra about 11pm, leaving her with broken ribs, a broken jaw and fractures to her shoulder and legs. He is accused of speeding off and failing to report the alleged incident to authorities. It’s alleged earlier in the night the couple were arguing before Mr Collins attended a Utakarra address to drop off the woman’s handbag. Mr Collins allegedly beeped his horn, drawing the woman out of the house towards his Holden utility. The woman held on to the top of the driver’s side glass window when Mr Collins allegedly accelerated away. The woman allegedly fell and was run over. She was rushed to Perth by the Royal Flying Doctor Service in the early hours of Monday morning for specialist medical treatment at Royal Perth Hospital. The court was previously told it could take the woman six months to walk again. Mr Collins played cricket for Towns and was considered one of the league’s best, winning the 2021-22 Doug Hogue medal.
