Alic Lee Bandry: Man fined $300 for stealing four $20 boxes of Viagra from O’Connor Chemist Warehouse

A man who stole four boxes of Viagra from a Kalgoorlie-Boulder pharmacy has been fined $300. Alic Lee Bandry, 37, stole two $20 boxes of the prescription drug from O’Connor Chemist Warehouse, then returned three days later and stole two more. He pleaded guilty to both stealing charges in Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on Monday. On the afternoon of February 26, Bandry entered the chemist, leaned over the counter, and took two boxes of sildenafil — commonly known by the brand name Viagra — from the prescription section. He put the medication in his jacket pocket and left the chemist. Bandry returned to the same pharmacy three days later, grabbed another two boxes of the medication, put them in his jacket pocket, and walked out. He was captured on CCTV both times, and arrested. Bandry’s lawyer Murray Stubbs said the offence was out of character and his client stole the medication because he was embarrassed to ask for it. He said Bandry had two children, was single, and separated from his partner a year ago. Mr Stubbs said Bandry had been unemployed for a year but was trying to find employment and “get his life back together”. Magistrate Janie Gibbs reduced the penalty by 25 per cent because of Bandry’s early guilty plea, and issued a fine of $300. She also ordered that Bandry pay $150 in court costs.
