A Perth grandma is in hospital with a broken wrist after teenagers threw rocks at her while she was riding her bike.

Last Thursday, Robyn Beattie was riding her bike in Butler, a northern suburb in Perth, when she was struck by a rock as she emerged from an underpass at Lukin Drive, Nine News reported.

“Just as I was coming out from there I saw a big boulder being thrown, coming down in front of me, and I’ve swerved,” she recalled.

“And I’ve hit the kerb and I’ve gone into all these big limestone boulders.”

As Ms Beattie lay in pain with a broken wrist, four teenagers on motorbikes and e-scooters continued with their tormenting, “laughing and doing wheelies”.

“I was feeling very scared and vulnerable,” she said.

Ms Beattie was hopeful the incident was not targeted and she was simply “in the wrong place and the wrong time”.

Either way, she said she won’t go riding in that location at that time of day again.

“I’m lucky that it was only my wrist and a helmet on,” she said.

Police Minister Reece Whitby earlier this year said heightened penalties for people using e-rideables illegally would be implemented in coming months.

In March, following WA Police announcing a blitz on e-rideables, he warned ‘e-hoons’ that a crackdown on behaviour that is already illegal will continue.
