A section of Great Northern Highway between Meekatharra and the Kumarina roadhouse was re-opened to the public this morning after a truck crash forced its closure yesterday.

A WA Police spokesman said a truck was towing a trailer carrying ammonia nitrate when the trailer rolled about 200km North of Meekatharra, spilling the chemical compound, about 10.40am.

He said it was unknown how the accident occurred.

The driver, a man in his 50s, was not injured.

A Main Roads WA spokeswoman said the highway was re-opened shortly after 7am this morning.

An exclusion zone was put in place around the crash site yesterday while emergency services workers attended the scene.
