Shire of Carnarvon Library and Art Gallery celebrates a decade of operating on Egan Street with free event

The Shire of Carnarvon Library and Art Gallery celebrated 10 years since it relocated from the council chambers, helping enrich people’s lives through a combination of education, arts and culture. On October 25, the shire celebrated a decade since the Carnarvon Library and Gallery relocated to Egan Street, with activities and programs reflecting the library and art gallery’s pivotal role in the community. The Babbage Island lighthouse keeper’s daughter Joan Seth and a volunteer tour guide shared a local history talk. Ms Seth shared memories of growing up in Carnarvon and shed light on the town’s rich heritage and deep-rooted traditions. Former Carnarvon resident and author of The Lucky Galah, Tracy Sorensen, performed an online author talk, diving into her latest work, The Vitals, a cancer memoir that resonates with the community. An Art with the Stars exhibition was launched, combining works from Shooting Stars leadership program participants who teamed with local Aboriginal artists to explore their cultural identities. This exhibition is the culmination of eight projects undertaken at six different sites. Shire president Eddie Smith said he was delighted to be celebrating a decade of the library and gallery. “This 10-year milestone is a testament to the shire’s dedication to fostering a love of learning, art, and culture within our community,” he said. “We look forward to continuing our mission to inspire, educate, and bring people together through the library and art gallery.”
