Police allege the driver of the van which crashed near Meekatharra last week was 3½ times over the blood alcohol limit. Police and an ambulance crew attended the crash site on Great Northern Highway, about 80km south of the DeGrussa mine site, with the driver needing to be taken to hospital. It is not known how seriously they were injured or how many people were in the vehicle. In a social media post last Wednesday, Meekatharra police said the driver had a blood alcohol content of 0.174, which is 3½ times over the legal limit. Police said the driver potentially put other road users in harm’s way, and has been charged and will face court at a later date. They also reminded people to take care driving on country roads at night.
