Meekatharra couple Norman Ryan and Valma Gilla found with their bogged vehicle

A missing elderly Meekatharra couple were said to be in “good spirits” after being rescued on a dirt track about 100km from the Murchison town. Norman Ryan, 77, and Valma Gilla, 78, were found on Monday afternoon with their bogged vehicle, about 25km off the Landor Road. They were reported missing after last being seen on Sunday morning at their Meekatharra home. A pilot spotted the pair and landed the aircraft and provided the couple with supplies before police arrived, The couple was taken to the Meekatharra GP clinic for a precautionary medical check-up, but a police spokesperson said “at this time they appear to be in good health and spirits.” The mercury reached almost 40C in Meekatharra on Monday, with temperatures forecast to keep rising this week.
