Geraldton netballers earn national team honours after starring for WA in national Indigenous netball carnival

Some of Geraldton’s most talented First Nations netballers have represented WA in a national netball carnival in Brisbane, with some members earning national representation honours. Seven members of Geraldton’s Netball Association represented the Boorloo WA Indigenous Netball (BWAIN) at the 2026 Australian Indigenous Schoolgirls Netball Carnival held between January 12-17. Organised by the Budgies Australian Netball Indigenous Corporation, the competition is designed to bring together the country’s most exciting First Nations netball talents across four age divisions. From there, further representative opportunities are on offer with the Budgies Australian Indigenous team selectors, as well as other State teams watching on. Amelia Hodder and Mielah Tittums impressed national selectors, earning selection in the 2026 Budgies Australian Indigenous Netball side and will represent the country against other nations like Fiji and New Zealand later in the year. Hodder’s selection comes three months after she was named in Netball WA’s Aboriginal Development Academy Squad, who played in a tri-series tournament against South Africa and WAKA netball club in Perth last year. Both Hodder and Tittums were also named in the Geraldton Netball Association’s Junior All Stars Team last year, with Tittums in defence and Hodder in attack. Adelynn Kelly also caught onlookers’ attention and was selected to play in the School Sport Australia National Championships in Darwin later this year. She also won the under-14s sportsmanship award for exemplifying fair play and respect for her opponents, teammates and officials on and off the court. The other four players — Jamie Curley, Sharqara Walley, Siearne Hodder and Mya Dudley — all did Geraldton proud while wearing State colours.
