Three people have died and two others are seriously injured after a head-on crash involving two cars near Dongara this afternoon.

Speaking at a press conference at Geraldton Police Station this afternoon, Inspector David Hooper said the Royal Flying Doctor Service was flying one of the injured to Perth, while the other was being treated at Geraldton Hospital.

“No one in the crash has been identified yet, and therefore no next of kin have been identified,” Insp. Hooper said.

“Because we haven’t been able to identify the next of kin we haven’t been able to give out any details in regards to those vehicles.”

Insp. Hooper declined to release details about the cars involved, but confirmed both were passenger vehicles.

The crash happened shortly before 12.15pm, about 300 metres south of the intersection of Melaleuca Road and Brand Highway, Bonniefield.

A section of Brand Highway has been closed in both directions about 10km north of Dongara.

Insp. Hooper said it was unclear when the highway would be re-opened to the public.

Major Crash officers are at the scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
