The region’s top youth talent will soon have the opportunity to test themselves and develop in East Fremantle’s Shark Pack. Meanwhile, we look at who’s topping the leading goal scorer races around the Mid West’s grounds.

SHARK PACK BEGINS TO FORM

The Mid West’s top under-16s prospects are circling as the East Fremantle Shark Pack has begun to form.

Several of the Great Northern Junior Football League’s clubs have taken to social media to congratulate the youth boys and girls who have been selected to be a part of the program, led by Harry Taylor and run in conjunction with the Mid West Academy of Sport.

WHO ARE THE LEADING GOAL SCORERS?

After 11 rounds, Cervantes’ James Corner leads the Central Midlands Coastal Football League leading goal scorer count with 46 goals — starting his season with a 13-goal performance against Moora.

Jurien Bay’s Rhys Waters is in second with 36, averaging 3.27 goals a game, and Cervantes’ Leo Lambert is in third with 33 goals.

It’s a much closer race in the North Midlands Football League, with Coorow-Latham’s Angus Longmire leading with 28 points. Morawa’s Ben Taylor and Clay Dongara are in second and third with 22 and 21.

In the Community Bank Geraldton Great Northern Football League, it’s tight at the top, with Hassan Ahmat-Watkins one goal ahead of teammate Khegan Brockman with 23 goals.

Towns’ Jaylen Parsons is in third with 20.

Chapman Valley’s Lucinda Rouse has kicked 14 goals and leads the women’s count, with Ruby Wallace in second with 13.

During Northampton’s round nine clash against Rovers, Selina Kiddle — in her 50th game — kicked two goals to bring up 101 career goals — a league record.

WAFL WATCH

Chapman Valley product Richard Bartlett kicked the sealer for Subiaco in their nailbiting four-point win over Swan Districts in the WAFL at the weekend.

The Swans tried to stage a late comeback in the final term, but Bartlett broke their hearts as he kicked his second goal of the day to secure the 9.6 (60) to 8.8 (56) victory.

Two more Mid West products fell on the right side of a narrow victory as Cassius Wall and Reid Foot were part of East Fremantle’s 5.9 (39) to 4.12 (36) win over Claremont in colts.

East Fremantle women’s skipper Tiani Teakle had 12 touches and six tackles, but her side fell three points short against last year’s premiers at Revo Fitness Stadium.

WEEKEND’S RESULTS

Cervantes and Dandaragan continue to command the Central Coastal Midlands Football League, with both sides bringing home wins in round 11.

The Tiger Sharks handed Moora Mavericks a 29.24 (198) to 2.4 (16) shellacking at Moora Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon.

In the league’s second game of the weekend, Dandaragan got the job done over Jurien Bay with an 11.20 (86) to 6.12 (48) win at Jurien Shire Oval.

Dongara jumped to second on the North Midlands Football League ladder with a thrilling two-point win over Carnamah-Perenjori — who now sit in third — at Dongara Recreation Centre.

The clash was tight across the four quarters, with the Kangaroos leading at three-quarter-time, but Dongara were ahead when it mattered to win 7.10 (52) to 7.8 (50) victory.

Three Springs got their second win of the season, defeating Mingenew 12.14 (86) to 8.6 (54) away from home in the North Midlands Football League.

In the league’s final match, Coorow-Latham continued to show their class with a stunning 16.15 (111) to 5.6 (36) win over Morawa.
