Greater Geraldton Gift Card program: Incentives all round to shop in town
A campaign is gearing up which will urge the Geraldton community to shop locally like never before.
The Greater Geraldton Gift Card program is the brainchild of the City of Greater Geraldton, aimed at boosting the local economy by supporting locally owned and operated businesses.
Businesses are being encouraged to sign up to the program.
“Every time you spend money at a locally owned and operated business, we all benefit,” Mayor Shane Van Styn said.
“Spending locally not only has a positive impact on our local economy, but it helps to create local jobs and it enriches the community.”
The three-year program is made possible through funding from Rio Tinto and support from the Mid West Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the IGA Group, Mitchell and Brown, and GWN7.
The gift cards, which look like credit cards, are available at local “Load Up Stores” which include Mitchell and Brown and all Cellarbrations and IGA stores under the local IGA Group. The cards can then be spent at participating stores in Geraldton.
At a recent information sundowner, more than 20 businesses jumped aboard, including Skeetas, Sportsfirst, Hog’s Breath, The Athlete’s Foot, and Nature’s Choice.
The program will be launched at the end of the month. To register or for more details, go to cgg.wa.gov.au/buylocal.
