Education assistant boasting of doing it ‘ten times a day’ with teenage student to be punished further

An education assistant who sneaked a 15-year-old student into her family home to have sex — and boasted to friends she bedded the vulnerable boy “10 times a day” — is facing further punishment, after admitting to also breaching strict bail to carry on the forbidden trysts. As revealed by The West Australian last week, the now 37-year-old mother of two was jailed by a judge for seven years after the shocking truth about her relationship with the boy was uncovered first by her school, and then by the police. The details of the woman’s illicit and criminal actions were revealed in Perth’s District Court, during her sentencing hearing for persistently engaging in sexual conduct with a child under 16. The woman’s name and former school cannot be revealed, in order to protect the young victim’s identity. That is also what the bail conditions imposed on her in 2022 were supposed to do, until she almost immediately and then repeatedly breached them. “The protective bail conditions … the nature of those type of conditions … (were) intended to stop you having contact with the victim,” Judge John Prior said. “Despite those protective bail conditions, you continued your sexual relationship with the victim and continued to live with the victim and financially support him.” In August last year, the woman admitted to three different breaches of that bail. On Monday, in Perth Magistrates Court, those admissions were affirmed, and a sentencing date for next month set down. During the District Court sentencing, the court was told that the woman had the 15-year-old tagged as “future husband”. His contact name for her was “wifey”. They had met at his southern suburbs high school, where she was an education assistant in her class. “Not only was he a student, but he was a student that had difficulties at the time, and he confided in her,” prosecutor Nathan Fawkes said “That’s how this — for want of a better term — relationship started. “He asked if he could stay with her because he had nowhere else to go … so she knew from the very start that this wasn’t just an ordinary student. “Clearly the standout point in this particular case is the vulnerability of the victim and the power imbalance between him and the offender.” When their furtive secret was discovered, the couple moved into a friend’s place to carry on the relationship. “The offender … told her things like she snuck the victim into her home without her husband knowing and that she and the victim did it 10 times a day,” Mr Fawkes said. After four months, a teacher spotted the pair together outside the school and reported the sighting. The woman told the boy to delete everything off his phone — and denied everything to her superiors. So did the victim initially. But he eventually told police everything. “The victim told police that he had not been honest in the first interview about his relationship with the offender as he was afraid of what would happen if he did. In particular, he was concerned he would become homeless,” the prosecutor said. “He said he had decided to be honest … as he had come to realise that he had lost a lot of people as a result of the relationship (and) he could no longer handle being in a relationship with her.” Defence barrister Dr Neville Barber told the court the woman had also lost everything. “Her relationship with her son has been all but terminated because of decisions made. (She) has also lost her relationship with her mother and her siblings “She has also lost her employment and any prospect of similar employment in future. She has lost physical things. “She has also lost a lot of self-respect. She is deeply ashamed by her offending, is exceptionally remorseful for it and is hugely embarrassed by it. “She is acutely aware of how badly she has messed up and definitely aware of how this has impacted so forcefully and so terribly on the victim and his family.” Mary Brown, Executive Director of Professional Standards and Conduct at the WA’s Department of Education, said in all cases “student safety comes first” “We expect the highest standards of behaviour from school leaders and staff,” Ms Brown said. “The Department and school leaders work closely with police and additionally, the Department’s Standards and Integrity directorate conducts its own disciplinary investigations into any allegations. “All allegations are taken very seriously and looked at thoroughly. “Complaints regarding the conduct or behaviour of a staff member can be made in person or in writing to the school or regional office. “There is also a complaints advice line (1800 655 985) or an online form to report to the Department directly. Complaints can be made anonymously.”
