Two goals from Laura Nelson and a strike from Abbey Turner gave Spencer Park a much-needed victory in round 12 of the Lower Great Southern Hockey Association A-grade competition on Saturday.

The 3-1 win over Mt Barker at Albany Hockey Stadium was just their fourth of the season and wasn’t enough to lift them off the foot of the ladder, but it gives them a look at a finals’ spot with three regular rounds to go.

Olivia Riggall replied for Mt Barker.

The sides meet again in round 13 on Saturday with the top two, North Albany and Manypeaks, due to face off on Thursday.

North Albany are top of the table with 26 points, 10 points clear of Manypeaks.

Mt Barker have 13 points in third and are one point ahead of Park.

In the men’s round 12 A-grade clash on Friday night, Manypeaks beat Spencer Park 5-3.

Mitch Bradbury grabbed a hat-trick for Peaks, with Oliver Douglas chipping in the other two.

James Leiper, David Wareham and Darren Parkes were on target for Spencer Park.

Park face North Albany in round 13 on Friday.

Manypeaks have an iron grip on the ladder after 12 matches and have yet to lose.

Park trail Peaks by nine points but are 12 points ahead of North Albany in third.
