Three people struck by lightning as storm sweeps across Perth

Three people have been injured by lightning strikes as a storm swept across Perth on Thursday morning.
A St John WA spokesman said ambulance crews rushed to Hamersley, in Perth’s north, after a man aged in his 70s was struck by lightning walking his dog near a golf course about 8.30am.
Paramedics treated the man who was seriously injured and rushed him to Fiona Stanley Hospital.

Two teenagers at a high school in Mount Helena, in the Perth Hills, were also struck by lightning and are being treated by paramedics.
A spokesman said crews, including special operation paramedics, were sent to the school about 10.15am.
Lightning also disrupted train services in the metro area, with services on the Mandurah and Yanchep lines experiencing delays following a “technical issue”.

TransPerth warned commuters that trains would continue to run but to allow extra travel time and be aware they may not connect with timetabled services.
“Trains on the Mandurah Line were cancelled between Elizabeth Quay and Aubin Grove after lightning in the area affected network signalling,” a spokesman said.
“This also impacted services on the Yanchep and Thornlie Cockburn lines.”
Hundreds of people across the metro area were without power after lightning strikes and damaging weather disrupted electricity supply.
Western Power warned it would be several hours before power was restored in some suburbs.
