First stop is the Bindoon Bakehaus, an iconic Chittering pitstop for a bite and caffeine fix.
The menu is broad and versatile, featuring the extremely popular steak and mushroom pie, gluten free peanut butter brownie and dairy free cinnamon bun. There’s something to match all preferences and dietary needs.
The Bindoon Bakery was first purchased in 2000, with five staff catering for the local community. In 2010, the bakery had outgrown its premises and made the move to the block next door where a much larger bakery was built. The relocation inspired a rebranding and the bakery became the Bindoon Bakehaus & Café and now has a team of 40.
The new building is a comfortable layout and casual dining experience with indoor and outdoor table and chair seating, and a breakfast bar.
The New Zealand influenced, second generation bakery seats 120 people and prides itself for supporting local producers and growers and its use of green packaging.
Bindoon Bakehaus is open 7 days, 7am-4pm weekdays & Saturdays and 8am-4pm on Sundays.
Stringybark Winery & Restaurant
The swollen clouds are grumbling as the rain soaks the grape vines. I am sitting inside the Stringybark Winery, perched on a bar stool, sipping red and munching on arancini balls. Life isn’t too bad!
The rustic restaurant is welcoming and cosy, with the open log fire the perfect feature for a rainy day like this one.
Stringybark oozes character and charm, with its gorgeous cottage venue perched on a beautiful patch of land. It has that feeling of home.
The restaurant is fully licenced and sources locally grown produce. It’s a great place to stop for a wine tasting and lunch from the seasonal menu after a morning spent exploring the wildflowers.
Nesci Estate Wine Farm
Nesci Estate was established in 1948 by Antonio and Carmelina Nesci, who cleared the land by hand and planted the first grape vines.
Kevin Nesci has continued his parents’ tradition of producing fine wines, ports and liqueurs from more than a dozen grape varieties. Everything is made and bottled on site.
The Wine Farm is dotted with wildflowers and now has over 60 acres of stunning vineyards and is home to around 100 beef cattle.
We stop at Nesci Estate to enjoy a tasting and a gourmet grazing board of local produce. These platters must be ordered in advance via the Estate Facebook page.
The venue is decorated with fairy lights and is available for function hire and events on the outdoor stage.
