Food, wine, music and stories.

We’ll be bringing all the senses to life at our Round the World Dinner on October 13. For these ingredients capture the essence of travel.

Once again, it will be in the banquet hall at the University of Western Australia Club in Matilda Bay. The setting, atmosphere, food and service are all terrific — for us, it will be like coming home, after our last dinner in Albany.

And once again executive chef Costa Simatos is a key ingredient, bringing his skills to writing the menu and producing interesting and beautiful food for a one-off evening.

READ NOW

Once Chef Costa has decided his menu, he sends it to me and I “write the evening” — full of anecdotes, characters, moments glimpsed as I travel.

I record this script as “spoken word” and send it to musician Steve Richter, who composes and compiles music especially for each piece to play live on the night, as I read.

The stories and music conjure up the place, and then the food is served, and are also the product of great friendships — between me and Costa and Steve, and the wider team at the University Club of WA and West Travel Club.

It’s handmade, one-off. We will only ever present it this once. I hope you are there.

GOING GLOBAL

We’ll be going truly global, reflecting all that Imagine Holidays has to offer travellers.

And Chef Costa’s five courses won’t just reflect places — but the experience of travel.

I’ll break with the tradition of keeping it all secret to let you know that, during the evening, we’ll travel to Africa and Italy and India in words, music and cuisine.

But we’ll keep the rest under our hats.

IMAGINE — OUR PARTNERS

We have a long and happy relationship with Imagine Holidays. We’ve partnered with them on previous Round the World Dinners, Travel Quiz Nights and on Travel Club Tours, from India to the Red Centre. I am currently working on two exciting Travel Club Tours, in partnership with Imagine, for 2023.

And Imagine is familiar with events. They are well known for their taking Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian to Uluru for travel events, for staging celebrity cruises, and even for arranging “whodunnit” rail and riverboat events.

Imagine has offices both in Perth and Brisbane, and readers will be familiar with their many advertisements through the pages of Travel, The West Australian and Sunday Times. imagineholidays.com.au
