WAFL 2025: East Fremantle forward Cody Leggett holds hope of finals return despite serious ankle injury

East Fremantle forward Cody Leggett hasn’t given up hopes of playing finals despite scans revealing fractures and ligament damage in his ankle which will sidelined him for at least the rest of the home-and-away season. Leggett went down late in the Sharks’ vital 10-point win over Peel Thunder at the weekend with scans confirming their leading goalkicker will miss at least a month. However, the dynamic forward is hopeful he will be able to return for the Sharks’ in September as they look to claim a second premiership in three seasons. It’s a big blow for the fifth-placed Sharks who have lost four of their past six games and face fellow premiership contenders in Claremont, South Fremantle and East Perth in their run to September. Defender Michael Tassone will miss the rest of the season with concussion issues after he sustained a second head injury for the year at the weekend. Tassone had delayed symptoms after the game on Saturday and the Sharks have decided to take a cautious approach with his recovery. Forward Mitch Zadow will miss a fortnight with a groin injury, while ruckman Luke Strnadica is an out for their clash against Claremont at The Good Grocer Park on Saturday with soreness. Premiership defender Cam Eardley returns for the first time since round 12 after being overseas, while Ethan Paholski will make his debut as one of four inclusions alongside young forwards Jack Cocking and Griffin Vladich. The Tigers have been forced to make one change from the side that thrashed Subiaco by 87 points last weekend, with forward Riley Disisto to miss with a rolled ankle, replaced by Jack Musika in the team. Ladder-leaders South Fremantle have lost brothers Noah and Zac Strom as they prepare to tackle the Lions at Sullivan Logistics Stadium. Zac Strom is stranded on 199 games after he injured his calf before the bye, while defender Noah is dealing with soreness. However, the Bulldogs have regained leading spearhead Trey Ruscoe as well as former West Coast speedster Jamaine Jones, with ruckman Josh Branchi to also play his first league game of the season. Subiaco have made a whopping six changes, dropping Ben Golding, Sonny Siano and Lachlan O’Keefe while Jarrod Richards (shoulder), Kody Eaton (hamstring awarness) and Patrick Mullane (illness) are all unavailable. Premiership midfielder Wil Hickmott leads the list of inclusions alongside draft hopeful Hudson Walker, Campbell Henderson, Connor Faraone, Kieran Douglas and Lachlan Henderson. East Perth have named debutant Tyler Lindberg for their derby clash against West Perth up in Joondalup. The forward joins Xavier Milner and Mitchell Schofield in the side for the Royals with Liam Tedesco (concussion), Sebit Kuek (hamstring) and Harrison Macreadie (ankle) all injured. The Falcons have gone in unchanged from the team that beat West Coast by 29 points before the bye.
