Tokyo Olympics: Great Britain diving star Tom Daley knits cardigan during Games stint

Call it great knittin’ from a Great Britain star.

Diving sensation Tom Daley showed off his talents away from the pool this fortnight, pictured on multiple occasions in the process of knitting while watching other events in the stands.

And when it came time to reveal the finished product, it certainly made a splash.

Daley’s ‘Team GB’ jumper quickly became a viral sensation, with the Olympian using it to help raise funds for the UK’s Brain Tumour Charity.

Daley’s father Robert passed away in 2011 after battling brain cancer.

“When I got to Tokyo, I wanted to make something that would remind me of these games.” Daley wrote on Instagram.

“Something that I could say I had made in Tokyo, during the Olympics!

“I did a Team GB logo on the back, with a flag and GBR on the shoulders and Tokyo embroidered onto the front!”

When it came to performing off the 10m platform this afternoon, Daley didn’t let up.

He produced a brilliant 91.8 with his final dive to qualify fourth-best among those to reach the semi-finals.

Australia’s Cassiel Rousseau put in an impressive display in the preliminaries to qualify for the semis, but compatriot Sam Fricker couldn’t progress.

Aussie swimming sensation Ariarne Titmus also turned her hand to knitting while in quarantine life upon her return Down Under - perhaps with not quite as strong results.
