When it comes to inheriting a jumper number, it doesn’t get much bigger than this at Hawthorn.

Subiaco product Tyler Brockman will don the famous No.33 in 2022 worn by club great and fellow silky-skilled Indigenous goalsneak Cyril Rioli.

Rioli wore the number for his entire 189-game AFL career which included four premierships and a Norm Smith Medal in 2015.

“It’s obviously Cyril’s number, I always looked up to him and I think a lot of us Indigenous boys have,” Brockman told the club website.

“It’s a dream come true to wear the same number as someone who obviously had such a great career.”

The Lions premiership colt, drafted with pick 46 in the 2020 national draft, played 11 games in his first season after getting an opening-round debut against Essendon.

The 19-year-old booted 10 goals for the year including a three-goal haul in the final-round draw against Richmond at the MCG.

Several WA draftees have had their jumper numbers confirmed with including Fremantle quartet Jye Amiss (24), Neil Erasmus (28), Eric ‘Roy’ Benning (38) and Matthew Johnson (44).

South Fremantle export Jesse Motlop will wear the No.3 at Carlton worn by recently-retired club great and former captain Marc Murphy.

Motlop’s ex-Aquinas College school mate and East Fremantle running machine Corey Warner has been given the No.37 at Sydney, with Claremont and Christ Church bull Angus Sheldrick getting the No.29.

West Coast are yet to confirm what numbers their draftees will wear.
