Socceroo defender Bailey Wright will be paying in England's second-tier Championship next season after sign a two-year contract extension with newly promoted Sunderland.

It will keep him at the club until summer 2024.

The 29-year-old has been on Wearside since January 2020 when he joined on loan from Bristol City before moving on a permanent basis six months later.

The Melbourne-born defender has played 91 games for the Black Cats, scoring on four occasions.

Wright said: "I'm absolutely delighted to sign a new contract at Sunderland."

Referring to the club's promotion play-off victory over Wycombe, he added: "What a way to finish last season at Wembley Stadium and I'm looking forward to enjoying Championship football this campaign."

The Game AFL 2024

Wright is expected to be part of Australia's squad at the Qatar 2022 World Cup in November, during which the Championship season will take a break.
