Wallabies full-back Tom Banks taken off in first-half of Optus Stadium test after horrible arm injury

They lost Quade Cooper just minutes before the kick-off, and now Wallabies full-back Tom Banks is out of the Optus Stadium test with a gruesome arm injury.

Banks rose in pursuit of a high ball, but was tunnelled by a pack and lost control in the air. He fell with his left arm caught underneath his body, causing it to snap under his 93kg frame.

The 28-year-old was taken off in the back of a medi-cab after the game was paused for a number of minutes.

It brought groans from the packed Perth crowd as the horrific vision was replayed on the stadium’s screens.

The injury came after Cooper went down in the warm-up with a calf injury.

Cooper’s exclusion meant former Western Force player James O’Connor was pulled from a hospitality commitment in a corporate box to take a spot on the bench.

He was spotted moments before kick-off in a Wallabies jumper but with suit and dress shoes in hand.

He then spent the opening minutes of the game warming up, even throwing passes to an immobile Cooper behind the Wallabies’ bench.

It leaves the home side with 14 players for the remainder of the game.

Jordan Petaia was brought on, while Waratahs winger Andrew Kellaway was shuffled into full-back.

Moments later, Darcy Swain was shown a red card after a headbutting incident with Jonny Hill, where he retaliated to having his hair pulled.

England legend Owen Farrell scored the first points of the game with a penalty goal, and extended his team’s lead after 20 minutes with another.

The Wallabies hit the board for the first time after 23 minutes, with their first points coming through Noah Lolesio

The highlight of their first half for the home side was a spectacular try-saving hit from Marika Koroibete on England’s Joe Marchant.

Play-maker Joe Curry held the attack up to swing a sweeping ball out to Marchant, but he was covered off by the Aussie man-mountain on the line.
