The Newcastle Knights have launched an investigation into why superstar full-back Kalyn Ponga was booted from a public toilet cubicle.

Video emerged of Ponga and teammate Kurt Mann being asked to leave the toilets by what appears to be a staff member while he is sidelined from the NRL club’s team with concussion.

The Knights were made aware of the video on Monday and are chasing an explanation from the pair.

The staff member appears shocked when he realises the identity of the two footballers, who leave the cubicle promptly and without a fuss.

The video has been circulating after it was shared on social media platform Snapchat.

Mann is also injured and the pair both missed the club’s 28-10 loss to the Brisbane Broncos on Saturday.

Ponga’s father Andre offered an explanation for his son’s incident, suggesting the Queensland State of Origin lynchpin was out celebrating after purchasing a house and was sick in the toilets.

“He made an exciting house purchase Saturday and celebrated with a few mates drinking,” he told the Daily Telegraph.

The Telegraph is reporting that story lines up with what Ponga has informed the club.

Mann could face further scrutiny from the club for drinking while recovering from a soft tissue injury.

Ponga’s season is now over, with the Knights electing not to rush his recovery from a concussion for the final round.

“I’d be sweet for the last round but doing no contact for the year, it probably would be a wise thing not to play the last round,” he told Triple M Newcastle.

“My season’s done. It’s a bit weird. I feel OK now. At the start I felt a bit weird, headaches and whatnot, but I feel alright now.”

The Knights sit 14th and are well out of the finals reckoning. They play the Canberra Raiders on Sunday before finishing their season with clashes against Gold Coast and a home game against Cronulla.
