Scotch College are Alcock Cup champions for the third year in a row after defeating Hale School by 28 points on Saturday.

But whether they’ll share the spoils with Wesley College is still to be determined after the South Perth-based school finished their season with a 45-point victory over Guildford Grammar.

“We knew what Saturday meant but we’re also focussed on the 12-game season which we said from the outset so we’ve got one game to go,” Scotch coach Steve Malaxos said.

“It was a pretty tough game and the wind had a bit of an effect on the score.”

Malaxos said his team’s third quarter proved to be the difference, setting them up for a 10th win of the season.

The Game AFL 2024

He highlighted the performances of half-backs Jett Sibosado, Joe Fonti, Xavier Graham, midfielders Sullivan Moody, Oscar Dees and three-goal forward Ed Graham.

Skipper Harry Cole was Hale’s best, producing another classy performance in the wet.

There was also the first draw of the year between Aquinas College and Christ Church Grammar School, finishing 4.7 (31) apiece in a thriller.

Christ Church captain Jonah Brooks, his school’s best all day with 25 disposals and a goal, capped off a big game with the valuable point to tie it after Aquinas started the final term with back-to-back majors.

The lead didn’t go into double digits the whole day in a see-sawing affair.

Aside from Brooks, Bailey Van der Struyf and his brother Austin stood out for Christ Church, while Max Rohr kicked a game-high two goals and Hugh Davies was strong down back before Hamish Fulwood was deployed in a lockdown role.

Mitchell Keene, Presley Campbell and Riley Scott-Waugh were among the best for Aquinas.

Kaleb Smith continued his hot form in Wesley’s season-ending win over Guildford, amassing 25 possessions, seven clearances and a goal, skipper and first-round draft fancy Reuben Ginbey had 28 and nine tackles, Toby McDonald 29, Aiden O’Driscoll 27, while Mitch Miller (three goals) did the damage on the scoreboard.

Captain Luke Kelly had a team-high 29 disposals for Guildford with Oscar Hine-Baston (22) also finding plenty of it.

Scotch host Trinity College on Thursday as the season finishes off with a midweek round from 2.30pm, with Christ Church taking on Hale at Revo Fitness Stadium and Aquinas travel to Guildford.

Wesley have the bye and nervous wait to see whether they’re joint Alcock Cup winners.
