Perth Glory men’s side finally get to re-start their A-League campaign with a clash against Brisbane Roar on Wednesday.

But the welcome return at Moreton Daily Stadium could be short-lived with COVID-19 playing havoc with the season.

The Brisbane game is the only confirmed fixture but Glory will stay in the Eastern States until at least February 5 when the WA borders are set to re-open.

Glory have played only four games this season, a win, a draw and two losses.

They last played in mid-December before being sent into two weeks of isolation when winger Pacifique Niyongabire tested COVID-positive in Brisbane and all squad members and staff were deemed close contacts.

Most of the squad has been training in Perth since their release at the start of the year with a handful of players, including star signing Daniel Sturridge, training in Sydney.

Glory chief executive Tony Pignata said the news was a welcome relief for the club and they hoped to have more fixtures locked-in.

“We expect to be playing again at the weekend but the opposition keeps changing,” Pignata said.

“Clubs are coming down with COVID and fixtures are being re-shuffled.

“We don’t know who our next opponents will be.

“Basically it will be whoever is available, but we will be staying in Sydney until the borders open.”

The A-Leagues are continually re-schueduling fixtures and the Western Sydney Wanderers game against Adelaide United, due to be played on Wednesday, is the latest casualty after a number of Wanderers’ players tested positive over the past few days.

Under A-League rules games can be postponed if five players test positive.

The A-Leagues said: “Our primary concern is for the health, wellbeing and safety of all players, staff and their families. We will continue to work with all clubs to confirm a new schedule for all postponed matches as soon as possible. “
