Perth Glory’s season looks beyond redemption after their crushing 4-1 defeat by Brisbane Roar in the battle of the A-League cellar dwellers at HBF Park on Saturday night.

They are rock bottom, four points behind Roar, 10 points from the top six and in a hole that looks too deep to dig themselves out of.

And things are about to get even tougher with leading scorer Bruno Fornaroli missing for an expected three games after his Socceroos call-up.

Fornaroli was surprisingly quiet. Starved of ball, he could not exert his usual influence on the game.

Glory will desperately be hoping that former England and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge and fellow forward Andy Keogh will be fit for their next match.

Glory are now seven games without a win. It was Roar’s first away win of the season.

A double from Juan Lescano either side of the break started the rot, a penalty from James O’Shea after Darryl Lachman brought down Jez Lofthouse sealed Glory’s fate and Luke Ivanovic danced through the defence to ice the cake.

Daniel Stynes smashed home a consolation goal in time added.

Glory had a lively start and put pressure on a packed Brisbane defence.

There was plenty of pinball in the Roar penalty box in the opening minutes but when chances fell Glory were not clinical.

Pacifique Niyongabire caused problems and when he took the ball into the box it broke to Adrian Sardinero whose shot was partially blocked and easily dealt with by goalkeeper Jordan Holmes.

Niyongabire then fired meekly meekly into the hands of Holmes.

After the frantic start Roar grew into the game but Glory did not help their own cause.

Too often they won the ball at the back but could not secure it, putting themselves under more pressure.

Roar had a goal from Kai Trewin ruled out for offside, Rahmat Akbari went unchecked into the box but fired straight at Glory goalkeeper Brad Jones and O’Shea sent a free kick over the bar.

Jones tipped a Louis Zabala shot over the bar before Lescano’s opener left Jones with an unwelcome birthday present.

After the break celebrations for a Daniel Stynes goal were cut short for offside before Lescano doubled his tally.

Josh Rawlins saw a fierce effort hit Holmes’ shoulder, Fornaroli fired a free kick straight at the ‘keeper and then saw another cleared off the line while at the other end Roar celebrated their two second-half goals.

Adding to Glory’s woes was a straight red card to substitute Mitchell Oxborrow for a dangerous tackle in the final play of the match.
