Ford’s Anton De Pasquale has secured his third pole position of the Supercars season for Saturday’s night race in Perth.

The Shell V-Power Racing star clocked a fastest lap of 53.5982 seconds in qualifying at Wanneroo Raceway to take pole ahead of Tickford Racing’s Cam Waters (53.7064).

“Was pushing quite hard there, obviously it’s so tight around here so you’re on the fine line of making a mistake or putting a good lap together,” De Pasquale, who is yet to win a race in 2022, said.

“We’ll try and convert tonight.”

Supercars is returning to Perth for the first time since 2019, with Shell V-Power Racing having won the past six races at the venue prior to COVID-19.

Championship leader Shane van Gisbergen, who is seeking his first Supercars race win in Western Australia, will start the 46-lap race from third position.

The Red Bull Ampol Racing star nearly failed to reach the final 10-minute block of qualifying after finishing 10th in the second session but capitalised to put himself at the pointy end of the grid for the race.

Erebus Motorsport’s Brodie Kostecki will start alongside van Gisbergen in fourth place.

While it was a good afternoon for De Pasquale, it was less so for teammate Will Davison.

Despite showing good pace in Saturday’s practice sessions, Davison will have to start the race from 12th after a mistake in qualifying left him in the middle of the pack.

“We’ve got a fast car,” the two-time Bathurst winner said.

“It’s a disaster for us and that’s on me.”

Championship contender Chaz Mostert had an even bigger shocker, with he and Walkinshaw Andretti United teammate Nick Percat to start the race at the back of the grid.

Mostert could only qualify 23rd while Percat will start dead last on the grid in 25th position.

Saturday’s race starts at 6.40pm (8.40pm AEST).
