AFL grand final: Max Gawn and Melbourne players party at Perth’s Market Grounds after win

Imagine being a Melbourne supporter at Perth’s Market Grounds pub, already soaking up the greatest sporting day of your life - and then Max Gawn and the Demons roll up.

Dozens of lucky Dees fans were treated to exactly that in the early hours of this morning, supercharging a premiership celebration 57 years in the making.

Gawn was filmed on the shoulders of teammate Adam Tomlinson, swigging a beer with his premiership medal around his neck.

The Melbourne skipper and his fellow players remained in their footy gear for the after-party, with Gawn still rocking his footy boots.

Teammate Angus Brayshaw awarded Gawn the “three votes” for best performer in the celebrations, with Steven May getting two - before awarding himself the one.

“I didn’t have time to take it all off,” he told Nine.

“It got a bit slippery - footy boots don’t go well on pub floor. But it’s all good.”

Gawn was his usual impactful self in the grand final, with 30 hitouts to go with 21 disposals and six clearances.

The premiership captain was also selfless in encouraging coach Simon Goodwin to leave WA young gun Luke Jackson in the ruck ahead of him when the Demons were making their decisive third-quarter surge.

Players had precious little time to recover from the night out, with Sunday morning’s premiership presentation at Forrest Place beginning in the late stages of the morning.
