Quality WA sprinter Flirtini topped the latest Inglis Digital sale when she fetched $385,000 for owners Barry and Jan McRostie.

Queensland owner-breeders Gordon and Janise Shannon bought the daughter of Artie Schiller, who won six of 33 starts and more than $600,000 in prizemoney for Ascot trainer Simon Miller.

Back-to-back wins in Group 3 sprints the Prince Of Wales Stakes (1000m) and Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) in 2019 were the highlights of Flirtini’s racing career.

She also won the Listed Miss Andretti Stakes (1100m) last year, was placed in several other features and ran fifth twice in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m).

“We’re so happy with the result,” Barry McRostie said.

“I’ve sold online before but nothing special like her. When we came up with the idea, we thought $300,000 was her price so to get nearly $400,000 was a real bonus.

“It was an enjoyable experience, watching it all unfold online.”

Gordon Shannon was thrilled to add Flirtini to his broodmare band, despite paying more than he anticipated.

“I paid a bit too much for her from what I was planning, but I’m very happy,” he said.

“She was a terrifically fast mare with a very impressive record and a nice pedigree.

“She’ll stay at Widden and visit one of the Widden stallions, I’m just not sure which one yet.”

Fellow broodmare prospect Zing, a four-time Sydney winner and Group 3 placegetter, was the next top lot, selling for $310,000.

Meanwhile, WA galloper Living The Dream has drawn barrier four in Monday’s $200,000 Darwin Cup (2050m).

The Rob Gulberti-trained gelding firmed to Darwin Cup favouritism after his brilliant win in the Metric Mile (1600m) last Saturday.

He will again be ridden by WA-based hoop Brad Rawiller.
