Fremantle will march into the finals series with their most powerful legion of fans yet after setting a new all-time membership record.

The Dockers had 55,671 members as of Thursday, bettering their record of 55,639.

It’s also the first time since the record was set in 2018 that the club has surpassed 55,000 members.

The record figure represents a whopping 10.5 per cent improvement for Fremantle after the club finished with 50,342 members last year.

The Dockers signed up 51,577 members in the COVID-affected 2020 season and 51,431 in 2019.

The breakthrough brings Fremantle a step closer to reaching their ambitious target of 80,000 members by 2025, outlined in the club’s strategic plan last year.

“We’re still a fair way off that but it’s a really pleasing step. I think we’ve built a base that if we can play some consistent, sustained and competitive footy, it’s going to grow even more,” Fremantle chief executive Simon Garlick said.

Seated members make up 84 per cent of Fremantle’s membership tally, with 63 per cent holding reserved seats and a further 21 opting for general admission.

The 12 per cent non-access membership category also includes the purple army, junior members and Docker tots, while the club’s AFLW fans contribute four per cent of the membership base.

Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe said players recognised the growing support.

“We’ve felt it all year as the team has built into the season. I think our membership numbers are reflecting that,” Fyfe said.

“The support we get at Optus Stadium when the house is really pumping is unreal. The players love it.

“If we can continue to get that support, get involved and march with us towards the end of the year.”

Defender Hayden Young said the backing from fans had been “unreal” this season.

“The past couple of years we haven’t really felt the love from the fans purely because they haven’t been able to come to games,” he said.

“It’s been great to see them back at Optus Stadium and when they pack it out, it definitely gives us a massive lift.

“It’s really exciting for the club and hopefully we can continue to build our membership and following and fans can come along for the ride.”
