Fremantle assistant Josh Carr said the Dockers would welcome the wet weather forecast for Sunday’s clash against Collingwood, declaring damp conditions should suit their style despite the disappointment of last weekend’s loss to Gold Coast.

The Dockers floundered at a soggy Metricon Stadium, with 30 more inside-50 entries adding up to only four goals for the match.

Carr said the Dockers needed to take the ball forward with a bit more “trust”, care and thought than they had against the Suns, should slippery conditions face them.

“We have probably been lucky in the last two to three weeks where we have been able to train in it and play in it,” he said of the wet.

“We feel like our game suits it. I know that sounds silly off the back of last weekend, but we bring really good pressure. We did not handle the conditions well last week but Geelong was a bit slippery and we handled it well.”

“We are looking forward to another opportunity to play in those conditions.

He said the Dockers had bombed the ball without thought too often against the Suns.

“It is the quality of our inside-50s for starters,” he told ABC Radio.

“We probably put ourselves under pressure. Gold Coast did bring really good heat. But we had opportunities to use hands before we went inside 50 and we probably threw it in there a bit quickly.

“Even though the conditions can be a bit wet you still have to trust your hands and use your handballs. A bit of trust in your game and in the contest and not just thinking that wet weather football is just hack it long.”

And Fremantle will welcome back the pressure and class of small forwards Sam Switkowski and Michael Walters, while Carr expected defender Alex Pearce to be fit for the match despite being subbed out of last weekend’s game with an ankle problem.

“As the week has gone on he has got more and more football under his belt and he is a really important cog to our team,” he said.
