Laurie Sawle Medal: Heather Graham joins elite group with third Zoe Gross Medal, Cameron Gannon men’s best

Heather Graham has joined an exclusive group of West Australian cricketers in her first season back in her home state, taking out the prestigious Zoe Goss Medal for the third time, while Cameron Gannon capped off his sensational summer with his first Lawrie Sawle. Graham was WA’s boom recruit ahead of the 2025-26 summer, with the 29-year-old lured back home after four seasons with Tasmania. And her impact was immediate: an early-season 90 with the bat against eventual premiers Queensland ignited her 289-run season, which also included 15 wickets. The all-rounder joins Nicole Bolton and Amy Edgar as the only cricketers to claim three Zoe Gross Medals. Chloe Piparo and Maddy Darke filled out the podium. It was double delight for men’s player of the year, Gannon, after an incredible season of wicket-taking for the former Queensland quick. In his sixth season in black and gold and at the age of 37, the right-armer claimed 42 wickets at 24.38 apiece to run away with the Laurie Sawle from off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli. Gannon was the second-leading wicket-taker in the competition, behind Liam Hatcher of New South Wales, and his efforts also saw him crowned four-day player of the season. The Simon Katich Medal was given some international flavour as blistering Kiwi Finn Allen was recognised for his avalanche of runs en route to the Scorcher’s record-extending sixth title. Allen clubbed a competition high 466 runs at 42.36 this season, including a BBL record 38 sixes as he partnered Australian T20 skipper Mitch Marsh in a dominant opening pairing. Beth Mooney won WBBL Player of the Year for the second time, scoring 549 runs at 45.75, including a century against Brisbane Heat at Allan Border Field. Both Allen and Mooney were named in their respective teams of the season. Mooney’s awards weren’t finished there; the classy left-hand opener determined WA’s most influential player on the international stage, winning the Gold Cup. Joel Curtis was recognised for his breakout campaign in the 50-over format, named the One-Day Player of the Year, while bowlers Shay Manolini and Albert Esterhuysen were the rising star recipients. William Farley and Adam Voges were also formally inducted into the WA Cricket Gallery of Greats.
