Batting prodigy Will Pucovski will remain sidelined for at least another fortnight as he battles to overcome a freak concussion incident.

Pucovski was on Monday ruled out of Australia A’s four-day clash with the England Lions, some two weeks after he was injured in a one-day match.

He will be replaced by the in-form Nic Maddinson for the fixture that starts Saturday, which will also feature Usman Khawaja, Kurtis Patterson and Marcus Stoinis.

Cricket Australia also confirmed the young star would not be available for Victoria’s Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland next week.

Pucovski suffered what is believed to be the eighth concussion of his career on February 2 when playing for a CA XI against the Lions.

In an unlucky blow, the 22-year-old’s bat became stuck in the ground as he attempted to make his crease and fell heavily.

The young star trained over the weekend, before the call was made to rule him out of the upcoming Australia A and Victoria matches.

It means his next top-flight match won’t be until at least March 6 in the penultimate round of the Sheffield Shield, more than a month after the initial knock.

“Will is recovering from the concussion and medical staff have assessed that he will not be available for the Australia A game or the next Sheffield Shield match,” CA medico Alex Kountouris said.

Pucovski has for a long time been considered on the cusp of the Australian Test team, but made himself briefly unavailable for selection earlier this summer as part of a mental health break.
