Boomers captain and NBA veteran Patty Mills could be on the move next season after reportedly declining his $6.2 million ($A9m) player option for next season.

The move makes the Brooklyn Nets' Australian guard a free agent one day before players can begin negotiating deals with clubs.

Mills made a career-best 227 three-pointers last season for the Nets, averaging 11.4 points in 81 games (48 starts).

Mills still could choose to return to Brooklyn.
