West Australian wild-card Maddison Inglis’ dream Australian Open run has continued after she won an incredible three-set contest against Hailey Baptiste at Margaret Court Arena.

The world No.133 overcame the US qualifier in a more than two-hour entertaining contest 7-6 2-6 6-2.

Inglis won a tough first set, before looking all at sea against Baptiste’s powerful serve in the second.

But the Perth-born tennis ace lifted in front of her family and friends to clinch a tense third set to storm into the third round of a grand slam for the first time in her career.

Inglis was not able to take advantage of a strong start, dropping with the American fighting back from 5-3 down to force a tie-breaker, which the Australian eventually won in a marathon 50 minute first-set.

Baptiste showed signs she was getting on top and took her game to another level in the second set, storming to a 4-0 win as Inglis struggled to win any of her break points.

After dropping the second set, things did not get any better for Inglis who was down a break after just the first game and under all sorts of pressure.

Baptiste’s powerful serve was troubling Inglis, who preferred the match being played with speed rather than brute strength.

Inglis broke back in a vital fourth game on the back of two double faults from Baptiste as the tension on court intensified.

This seemed to give the 24-year-old a new lease in the contest, as she held serve from 30-0 down and saving a break point, before shifting the entire momentum of the game by breaking Baptiste to go 4-2 up.

From here it was all Inglis, who broke again to win the final set in to join world No.1 Ash Barty as the only Australians left in the women’s singles draw.
