Western Australians chasing a picture-perfect Christmas at the beach are in luck, with a new data analysis pinpointing the exact coastal spots more likely to deliver hot temperatures, blue skies and virtually no rain this December 25.

A three-year study of historic Bureau of Meterology Christmas Day weather has identified Shell Beach in Shark Bay as the number one place to spend Christmas in 2025, offering the most reliable festive beach weather anywhere in the State.

The research, conducted by Frameshop.com.au, analysed maximum and minimum temperatures, rainfall and sunshine data from the past three Christmas Days to create an index of WA’s most statistically idyllic beaches.

“If you don’t want to leave your Christmas weather to chance, this index pinpoints the places where you’re statistically going to see sunshine all day, hardly a cloud in sight and very little rain,” Frameshop expert Mohammad said.

“We want Australians to make picture-perfect memories over the holidays — and Western Australia offers the best natural light and conditions in the country.”

Shell Beach in Shark Bay topped the list thanks to its average highs above 30C, zero rainfall, clear and bright sun exposure and calm, swimmable festive conditions.

The iconic white-shell shoreline is already a favourite with holidaymakers — and the data suggests it’s as close as WA can get to a guaranteed sparkling summer Christmas.

Local favourites such as Cottesloe Beach, Rottnest Island’s Salmon Bay and The Basin also scored exceptionally highly, delivering almost uninterrupted sunshine and no measurable rain.

Down south, Eagle Bay to Yallingup delivered consistently warm, dry and photogenic conditions across the past three Christmas days.

Esperance favourites also rank strongly, with Twilight Beach and Wharton Beach both recording mid-20s temperatures, minimal cloud and less than half a millilitre of rain.

The study showed WA beaches outperform much of the country on Christmas Day for blue skies and dry conditions.

Mohamad said the data could help families plan a more memorable Christmas morning outdoors.

“Whether you’re framing your family photos or just chasing that classic Aussie beach shot, Western Australia delivers the best natural light in the country,” he said.
