Perth weather: WA forecast to swelter through severe heatwave as temperatures hit 40C for first time in 2021

Have you been living at the beach for the first week of 2021? Well, don’t pack away your sunscreen just yet — it’s about to get even hotter.

Perth has been sweltering through temperatures above 30C since ringing in the new year but a severe heatwave will see the mercury rocket above 40C this weekend.

The city could reach a top of 38C today, with tomorrow set to be a hot and sunny 38C.

Friday is expected to be the hottest day of the year so far, with a top of 41C forecast.

Hot and windy conditions experienced over the past week are set to continue with severe to extreme fire danger ratings being maintained across WA over the next few days.

A Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson confirmed the afternoon sea breeze that’s been noticeably absent along WA’s coast for almost a week is expected to return late on Friday, bringing the forecast down to 35C on Saturday.

“(The easing temperatures will be) a pretty big relief from the heat we’re experienced,” the spokesperson said.

Sunday’s forecast is set to dip below 30C for the first time in 2021, reaching just 28C on Sunday.

Saturday: 35C, very hot and partly cloudy
