Perth’s south has been battered by large hail and flash flooding as a low-pressure system moves towards the west coast.

A thunderstorm tore through Rockingham on Friday afternoon bringing strong winds and heavy rain.

“The weather is working its way towards the west coast, so areas from Lancelin anywhere to Augusta may experience thunderstorms soon,” Duty Forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology Luke Huntington said.

The brunt of the low-pressure system will move further south and is expected to hit Bunbury early on Saturday morning.

There are currently no weather warnings in place for the metro area.

Perth residents took to social media on Friday afternoon to show the wild weather in their area.

“Crazy in Rockingham. Hail everywhere. We were under water front and back,” one person wrote.

“Right on school pick-up time,” said another.

The rains will ease off slightly by the weekend with 5-10mm on Saturday, but don’t put the gumboots away too soon.

Mr Huntington said another cold front was expected to move through during Sunday, bringing increasing showers, storms and strong and gusty winds with it.

While the showers are expected to ease up somewhat early next week, BOM modelling suggests winter is well-and-truly here with stronger cold fronts on the horizon with the pattern of showers and cold fronts forecast to increase.
