Perth Easter weather: Chance of thunderstorms could dampen Good Friday fun

Aussies across the country are celebrating the incoming four-day Easter weekend, but Perth residents may be forced to take the party indoors over potential rainfall.

After the horror of cyclone Narelle brought flooding and destruction to WA, clouds have cleared and temperatures have started to climb across Perth.

This week’s mercury will reach its peak on Good Friday, bringing sunshine and warm temperatures of 28C to locals.

Bureau meteorologist Grace Abbott warned while the sun may be out, a west coast trough moving across the State’s Lower West could cause thunderstorms to ruin the good weather.

“The trough brings the chance of an afternoon thunderstorm to the city on Friday,” she told PerthNow.

The system will continue to move inland during Easter Saturday, resulting in a slightly cooler 25C maximum and partly cloudy conditions..

Ms Abbott said the system’s movements brought a “slight chance of showers” to Sandgropers, although the forecast predicts mostly dry skies for Saturday.

Easter Sunday will kick off with sunshine and light winds, with temperatures reaching 23C.

As West Aussies celebrate the holiday with friends and family, the afternoon could bring rain as a weakened cold front moves across the State.

“Some light showers are possible as this weak cold front passes southern WA during Sunday,” meteorologist Grace Abbott said.

The light rain is expected to continue throughout Easter Monday as the cold front moves past the region, bringing windy conditions and a high of 24C.

The weekend weather will be slightly wetter than last year’s Easter break, which saw the mercury reach highs of 28C with no rainfall.
