Sam Kerr’s father Roger reveals horrific injuries his mother Coral suffered after she was hit by a car in WA

The horrific extent of the injuries suffered by Sam Kerr’s grandmother when she was hit by a car in December have been revealed, with the 90-year-old expected to remain in hospital for up to six months. The Matildas star’s father Roger Kerr told The West Australian his 90-year-old mother, Coral, suffered a number of broken bones and underwent major surgery after she was hit at a bus stop metres from her Palmyra home on December 27. “For 90 she’s going pretty well. She’s had both her hips done, her pelvis done, a rod in her knee, two broken ankles . . . she’s come through all of it,” Mr Kerr said. “She (had) never been under anaesthetic in her life.” Mr Kerr said his mother had been moved from Royal Perth Hospital to a rehabilitation ward closer to the family, and expected her to be there for about six months as she recovered. “She’s a real strong lady, naturally she’s a bit upset because she can’t move around and it’s going to take her a long time to move, but she’s in good health and good spirits, that’s the main thing,” he said. A 63-year-old Willagee man is due to face Fremantle Magistrates Court on Tuesday (February 4), charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm. Neighbours alleged at the time of the crash the car had tried to overtake the stopped bus in a white Great Wall ute near the intersection of Marmion and Justinian streets when the incident happened. Kerr and her pregnant fiancee Kristie Mewis flew into Perth from NSW the day after the accident to be by Coral’s side. The couple had been in the Hunter Valley attending the wedding of teammate Emily van Egmond. Soon after her arrival, Kerr posted a message of thanks to her Instagram account. “Thank you for all the messages, love & prayers for my Nan,” she wrote, finishing the message with a kiss.
