New data has, for the first time, revealed the massive gulf between how many page impressions The West Australian gets online from WA users compared with any other news website.

The Ipsos “iris online audience measurement” figures show The West Australian boasted 46 million page views on its website from people living in this State in January alone.

In comparison, the second-placed site visited by West Australians looking for information was news.com.au — which had less than half the WA-based page views at 20 million.

The ABC had just eight million WA-based page views and Nine’s website WAtoday had three million WA-based page views.

Meanwhile the Ipsos Iris data also reveals the true scale of some websites that boast big social media followers but not so many actual visitors.

For example, the figures show the website “Perth is OK!” had 345,000 WA-based page views.

Adding in figures from interstate, The West Australian had a total of 55 million page views across the country in January.

The Ipsos iris data reveals that in total 3.6 million people read The West Australian online through the first month of the year.

That is more people than visited Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph or The Australian.

And it’s over 1 million people more than visited the Australian Financial Review.

We are beyond excited by the ongoing performance of our digital brands.

Seven West Media WA general manager of digital transformation, Brent Stewart, said the release of the Ipsos iris data meant there was an “independent source of truth and comparison for our industry”.

“This is a gold standard that publishers, clients and media agencies can rely on,” he said.

“At The West Australian, we are beyond excited by the ongoing performance of our digital brands and we have so many new and innovative projects pegged for the year ahead.

“This includes a new weekday financial markets show called Trading Up as well as a new AFL show called Mad Monday, that will feature Mick Barlow & Xavier Ellis.

“This March also sees us release our long awaited The Game footy tipping app, which takes WA’s favourite tipping comp to a new level”.
