A fire at Hillarys Boat Harbour has sunk four boats and resulted in an alert being issued for smoke and fumes overnight.

The fire started on one boat before spreading to three nearby vessels about 10.35pm on Saturday.

Firefighters spent several hours trying to contain the blaze, with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services issuing a smoke and fumes alert.

The blaze was eventually put out about 2am on Sunday.

The cause of the fire is not known.

DFES officers are continuing investigations into the blaze.
