Dianella crash: Five-year-old crash victim dies in hospital after life support switched off

A five-year-old girl critically injured in a horror Dianella crash last month has died.

The young girl spent four days fighting for her life in the intensive care unit at the Perth Children’s Hospital following the crash on June 24, which had also left a woman critically injured.

The West Australian understands her life support was switched off just before she would have turned six-years-old.

Authorities said the girl was a passenger in a white Toyota Kluger travelling south along Dianella Drive, when it mounted the median strip just before 9am.

The Kluger then ploughed into a tree.

The 64-year-old woman driving the car was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries but her condition later improved.

A second girl, aged four, escaped injury.

The five-year-old girl is the fourth child to have died on WA roads in the past month.

Jackson Donovan, six, was critically injured in a car pile up in Rockingham as his mother drove him and his sister home from school on Friday, June 10.

His mother later laid bare her heartbreak after being forced to turn off their little boy’s life support after the horrific crash, describing the unbearable moment he fell silent in the back seat.

A week later, on June 18, two 17-year-old boys Ryleigh Land and Dale Martin were killed in a car roll over in Wagerup.

It is understood the teenagers were on a camping trip when their car rolled off South Western Highway.

Ryleigh’s heartbroken mother Kelly Land and brother Connor McDermott were among the grieving family members who visited the crash site the following day, where they erected a memorial out of cricket stumps and a bat for the cricket loving teens.
