Emergency crews are responding to reports of a multi-vehicle crash on a major highway in Fremantle.

A woman in her 20s has been injured in the incident, which occurred at about 6.50am on Stirling Highway in Nedlands.

She will be taken to nearby Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Police and St John Ambulance crews are on the scene, and Main Roads have shut the highway heading west from Webster Street to Stanley Street.

The highway has been reduced to a single lane at Smyth Street with the public asked to avoid the area.

Peak hour traffic is heavy in the area, Main Roads said.
