A Dalyellup soccer club has given the Capel Shire Council a framed team shirt as a token of the club’s appreciation for the council throwing them a lifeline through its COVID-19 community donation initiative.

Dalyellup Park Rangers Football Club presented shire president Michael Southwell with the framed shirt at the club’s junior wind up on September 19, when Cr Southwell presented club representatives with a donation certificate.

The council last month decided to fund a one-off community donation scheme — which had a donation of $50 per member — to support clubs, associations and sporting groups within the shire and help them recover from the impacts of the pandemic.

Club registrar Simon O’Neill said the club’s council donation of $8550 would help to keep them afloat and he was sure other clubs and community groups would feel the same.

We certainly lost a fair bit of money with sponsorships which couldn’t go ahead because of the pandemic, places closed down or weren’t able to give money.

“This will really help us to make sure we have enough kits and equipment for the kids and also for the seniors as well.

“It’ll basically help us stay afloat and keep going.”

Mr O’Neill said it was an excellent scheme which was helping other clubs to make sure they could survive the next few years.

“It’s a great community thing the council has done,” he said.
