The Rockingham area will receive a boost in cancer support with the appointment of McGrath cancer care nurse Dinah Tegan supporting people experiencing upper gastrointestinal and lung cancers.
McGrath Foundation CEO Ryan Barlow said the new placement would provide free care and support for individuals and their families in the Rockingham community.

“McGrath cancer care nurses are clinical experts who help people with cancer, and their families, navigate the medical system by providing clinical, psychosocial and emotional support to people throughout their treatment,” he said.
“We are incredibly proud to begin to provide this vital service to people experiencing upper GI and lung cancer in Rockingham, as we are committed to our purpose of ensuring no one goes through cancer without the care of a McGrath cancer care nurse.”
With more than 15 years nursing experience and a postgraduate certificate in cancer nursing, Ms Tegan will be based at Rockingham General Hospital and will provide free care and support for families experiencing upper GI and lung cancers in the community.
Ms Tegan said empowering patients throughout their cancer experience and providing them with holistic care was what she enjoyed most about her role.
“I’m here as an advocate, helping patients navigate the healthcare system and supporting them for the best possible outcomes,” she said.
“When patients share their concerns, whether they be practical, clinical or emotional, open communication is so important. Having these conversations and addressing these concerns allows me to make the biggest difference as a McGrath cancer care nurse.”
There are currently 343 McGrath cancer care nurses across Australia, and 33 supporting people with cancer throughout WA.
Foundation nursing care is completely free and without a need for a referral.
