A Perth scuba diver has had a lucky escape after a 3.5m white shark took their spear – still with a fish attached – just off the coast of Hillarys.

The Shark Response Unit today confirmed the “interaction” with the massive shark, which happened at 11.20am today at Three Mile Reef, directly west of Hillarys Marina.

After a report of the shark in the area this morning, the diver’s close call was confirmed this afternoon. A shark advice warning was immediately issued.

“DPIRD advises the shark sighted was believed to be a 3.5m white shark, which could be a threat to people,” a statement said.
