A jetski rider has had a terrifying close encounter with a shark at a beach in Mandurah.

The interaction happened about 8.05am on Wednesday at Town Beach.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development reported the beach was closed after a 2m bronze whaler shark “bumped” into a jetski rider about 100m offshore earlier in the morning.

No injuries have been reported.

The swimming spot will remain closed as the City of Mandurah continues to assess the situation.

In a statement, DPIRD urged residents to adhere to the closure and stay informed by checking for shark activity on the SharkSmart website.
