Three South West Arts projects have nabbed a portion of a $2.4m State Government investment into WA artists. This week the State Government announced it would be backing 42 creative initiatives across the State as part of its latest round of arts projects grants with the Margaret River Readers & Writers Festival 2026, Bunbury Fringe and Southern Forest Arts all receiving a portion. In total, 17 initiatives from individual artists and groups shared in $893,501 through the Arts Projects for Individuals and Groups program, while a further 25 organisation-led projects received $1,511,508 in support. This funding aims to support development, production and presentation of creative work and help build a strong and sustainable arts sector while ensuring communities throughout Western Australia can participate in cultural experiences, according to the State Government. Arts Margaret River’s Readers & Writers Festival received $58,956 from the funding with the festival officially kicking off on May 15, while Bunbury Fringe received $62,342. Southern Forest Arts also received $80,000 for its annual 2026 program. Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk said the investment would help West Australian artists share their stories, music, language and cultural heritage with audiences across the State and beyond. “From literature and visual arts to music, festivals and digital innovation, these projects showcase the diverse and outstanding talent of WA creatives,” she said. “The Cook Government is committed to supporting our creative industries, strengthening local careers, and ensuring communities throughout Western Australia can access rich and engaging cultural experiences.”
