South West’s iconic golden cow will be moo-ving back to the heavens next week after almost nine months of TLC

The South West’s iconic golden cow will be moo-ving back to the its rightful location soon after almost nine months of love and care. After leaving her post in February this year, Cowaramup’s famous golden cow is expected to be returning to her plinth early next week to watch over Cow-town It has sat in place for 15 years with the original creator Ron Roozen telling the Times it was looking worse for ware, and with help from the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River, he took her down for some much needed restoration. Originally erected in 2010, Roozen said the cow was a parody of Laurance Wine Estate’s Chick on a Stick. It was put up one day with no planning permission from the local government. “There was no engineering involved, I just did it myself and up she went,” Roozen said. “Now, 15 years later, I look at her all the time, and I thought she really needs to come down, get re-sprayed and cleaned up a bit.” Roozen said the renovations took longer than he initially expected, but she was looking better than ever, ready to fly high once more. “She looks beautiful,” he said. After so many months away, the community have not been able to hide their excitement for their beloved bovine’s return, with a social media post from Roozen’s announcement garnering almost 1000 responses in just a few days. “It’s quite bizarre really,” he said. “It was never sort of intended to be like that, because initially, not many people knew who made it, and now, everybody does. But, I’m really happy that the community love it so much. “You know, Cow-town want their cow and she’s the queen of the town — after she went up, another 40 cows came along. “She presides over everyone — rain, hail or shine.” Shire President, Julia Jean-Rice said the shire have been working hard to refurbish Cowaramup’s favourite golden cow statue over the winter, and she will be hoisted back into place early next week. “The cow has undergone extensive repairs and strengthening, and we’ve also installed a new, more durable pole to support it for years to come,” she said. “ “We’re udderly delighted to see it returning to its home, and we know the community is just as excited to welcome it back.”
