Share the Dignity donates hundreds of pad & tampon packets to Kalgoorlie-Boulder community groups

An organisation committed to helping those experiencing period poverty has delivered hundreds of sanitary products to help support organisations across Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Share the Dignity donated more than 200 pad and tampon packets to Goldfields Aboriginal Community Services on Thursday as the organisation distributed products to various local organisations. Share the Dignity’s Indiana Harley said the donation was made possible by the community, who had contributed hundreds of products at a Woolworths Kalgoorlie collection station in the past months. “These products come from everyday people who have shopped at Woolworths over the last month and chosen to donate to the pink bins,” she said. “I was given the opportunity to deliver sanitary items to women in need, also to promote that period poverty is a real thing.” Ms Harley, who grew up in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, said the products were especially important in regional areas such as the Goldfields. “Something that does happen with a woman’s body should not be something that we have to pay for when they already may be struggling,” she said. “Everyone is feeling the rising costs of living but we’ve definitely noticed that there is a bigger demand in more remote and regional communities as opposed to metro areas.” GACS operations manager Jaqueline Barton said the products would make a difference to people across the region as they were distributed to those in need. “These products are absolutely essential so it’s nice to know that there are people out there caring in the community,” she said. “I think they will generally provide relief . . . especially for women that are struggling financially or waiting to get paid. “We all know what it’s like to be desperate to be scrambling for sanitary products when our time comes, so it will just be provide that relief.”
